About Mel Hornby

Mel Hornby BSc (Hons) MNIMH – Medical Herbalist

My name is Mel Hornby. I am a practicing Medical Herbalist and I am a fully qualified member of the National Institute of Medical Herbalists.

I graduated from the University of Central Lancashire with a BSc (Hons) degree in Herbal Medicine, in 2007. I studied at the university for 5 years covering subjects such as physiology, pharmacology, pathology, biochemistry and botany, in addition to 500 hours supervised clinical training.

As a Medical Herbalist, I am trained in the same diagnostic skills as orthodox doctors, but take a more holistic approach to illness.

I am a member of the National Institute of Medical Herbalists (NIMH), founded in 1864, requiring its members to have graduated from an accredited university where students are trained in both medical and plant sciences. (www.nimh.org.uk)

Being a member of NIMH, I am required to carry out Continuing Professional Development and commit to a career-long learning programme. I feel very fortunate to be working in a job that I love doing and I am able and willing to treat all patients, whatever their complaint.

Herbal medicine is the oldest known form of medicine and has been used for thousands of years to treat illness and restore good health.

As a Medical Herbalist, I will combine the traditional use of herbs with modern scientific knowledge and research to create your very own individual herbal prescription which will not only treat your symptoms, but also the underlying cause of ill-health.
